  1. I have never looked in close detail to exactly what you are planting before. So I was surprised and a little confused with what I read. Under 'Propagation Seeds' you have plants like Spinach that I thought you wouldn't sow until March/April. But firstly does 'Propagation Seeds' mean 'Sow Seeds'?

  2. Good point Jason
I am sowing these seeds into punnets and keeping them in the shadehouse for germination.
I have to get an early start on the brassicas (cabbage family) so the seedlings I plant out in the garden in March can get good growth happening before our cold weather arrives in late April.

Having said all that I am trialling extra early plantings of spinach this year because the summer has been quite mild so far.
This lot of spinach will go into salad boxes out of the sun and may or may not grow successfully.
I think we need to experiment with planting dates with the seasons acting so strangely lately. Seeds don't cost much and I might just get a decent crop. :)

  3. I'm in awe at what you're propogating this time of year. Our vege patch is almost empty here in Brisbane. If it hasn't rotted, stewed or mildewed, bugs have attacked.

  4. Maybe Doc is right! while you are sitting in the shade house you are breathing out carbon dioxide which the plants will love!

  5. After your pumpkin pollination advice, that I shared with my 5 year old son, on Saturday he discovered he now has 2 pumpkins growing on his plant. He was very excited, thank you Scarecrow.

On Sunday we attended our first gardening group meeting where he was able to share this knowledge to someone else who is having the same problem.

    I blogged about it:

  6. Hi Missy
I hope things are improving and drying out in your part of Australia.

    Hey Matron
Don't encourage Doc we have plans for that shadehouse!!!

    Hi Jason
Great to hear the pumpkin trick worked!! Your son now knows the secret of producing pumpkins!
Your garden group sounds like a great idea, good luck with it!
