Hi Scarecrow. I am new to the world of blog reading :) Found your blog in a link from Down to Earth and have to say you will now be on my list of favourites to read regularly.I read the entire food gardening lessons. We already have a small veggie garden and are about to spread our wings and increase the number of beds to become more self sufficiant Learning new tips is great but reading your blog is just the inspiration I need to keep the momentum going. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou :)Linda
ReplyDeleteScarecrow do you start everything in punnets / containers?
ReplyDeleteIs there anything that you sow direct?
LOL Doc!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda
Thank you for visiting!
Have fun in Blogland!!
Hi Spring
This time of the year (when I get itchy planting fingers) I plant frost sensitive stuff in containers so I can keep them out of frosts way.
I do direct plant beans, peas, corn, carrots/parsnips, later plantings of pumpkins etc.
I learnt last year not to bother with corn or bean transplants...they just didn't do well at all.
Growing them in containers also allows for larger seedlings to be planted that can withstand earwig attack better.
Also allows them to be growing while I still have other things in or am preparing the beds for them.
